About

Danila Poperechny is a comedian for whom stand-up has long ceased to be just a way to make money on tickets. He turns the personal and the political into the emaciated, tired diary of an emigrant and a cynical observer. His concerts are shattered illusions, a ballet of the absurd and attempts to find some kind of support, even if there is only fear, confusion and chronic fatigue around. Poperechny always has room for irony, whether he's talking about the culture of abolition, impenetrable politics, or petty domesticity turning into sinister symbolism. In this mix of frustration and acute skepticism, he deftly exposes hypocrisy and displays a theater of double standards, not shying away from calling things by their proper names. There will be no rose-colored glasses here: Transverse laughs in spite of, not for the sake of. His main strength is his ability not to lose his sober gaze even when it is easier to close his eyes.
